Creating Your Own Purse Patterns

Purse patterns are easy to make as long as you have the basic knowledge of this craft. You can create any purse pattern you like easily if you have the knowledge.

Purse is a common accessory used to contain small things like coins. Purse comes in different sizes, colors and designs. Purse patterns are guides to sewing your own purse.

Sometimes we see some of the beautiful designs of purses in many department stores and we wanted to have those designs for our purse. If you have the skills in sewing, you can actually make your own purse patterns easily. If you have a good sewing machine and the right materials, you can do for yourself a unique purse pattern. This is a great hobby as well and could actually be a good business to start if you have the skills.

Sewing your own purse pattern is easy with just a few simple steps. The first thing you do is try to create a sketch of the design you have in mind. If you don't have any idea in mind, you can refer to a photo or other existing makes.

Use this as a pattern and draw those details in paper. In sketching, make sure to sketch the actual size you want. Use a pencil in sketching so you can easily redraw if you want some changes.

Also draw the body of the purse as well as its handles. When finished sketching and you are satisfied, draw the final pattern with a marker.

After finalizing, it is now time to cut out all the pieces. Remember that purse patterns must have a seam allowance of about ½ inch.

To ensure that you have the exact allowance, after cutting the pieces of the purse pattern, retrace it again in a new paper but this time with larger sides for the seam allowance. This will serve as the final pattern for your purse.

For the handle, try to look on the details of a purse as a sample in order to know where to put the handle. Do this procedure before tracing the pattern with the seam allowance.

For your trial, use a cheap fabric and cut those pieces with your final purse pattern. This will give an overview of the actual output. By using a cheap fabric first, you are sure that you won't be wasting some precious materials.

If you are happy with your trial project, it is now time to do the final product. You can use any choice of material you like depending on your preference. Now you know how to create your own purse pattern.

After creating several purse patterns, you can also do modify the size and design. You can also add some accessories in your final product such as buttons, laces and ribbons.

It is best if you start with smaller sizes as this are more simple and easy to make. You can make more interesting designs and patterns as you go along, once you are more familiar with the procedure already.

Making purses can be turned into a profitable business if you can perfect the craft.
